Royal Academician and Camden-based artist Sir Anthony Caro’s sculptures will be shown alongside paintings by Irish artist John Noel Smith in an exhibition at Waterhouse and Dodd gallery in Cork Street, the first major UK show of Smith’s work.

Smith’s abstract paintings complement Caro’s tough, modernist steel sculptures. Both the colourful paintings and the bold sculptures are dramatic but also have a delicacy about them.

Lynne Green, the exhibition’s curator, said: “Smith’s and Caro’s art is an art of pleasure. Within it we discover narratives about the forces that animate our lives.”

• Smith and Caro exhibition is at Waterhouse and Dodd, 26 Cork Street, W1, from Jan 24-Feb 17, 020 7734 7800, www.waterhousedodd.com
