Silence over pledge to rid us of this thorn in our side

Published: 27 August, 2010

• WITH just a few months left of the Decent Homes programme, is it not time to get rid of the thorn in many Islington residents’ sides – Homes for Islington (HfI)?

We have seen outrageous quality controls with regard to its contractors and the overpricing of work for leaseholders, putting many into poverty.

HfI has a board of directors made up of councillors and others who are gagged to secrecy while receiving large financial rewards.

It has a chief executive, Eamon McGoldrick, who will not take the many complaints of residents to a conclusion but simply passes them down the management chain, which in turn passes them on to the fob-off department, which shows complete disregard for concerned residents.

Finally, where are those councillors who while electioneering made a commitment to disband HfI but since getting into office have remained silent?
