Still council tenants

Published: 18 June, 2010

• MANY residents will be somewhat confused by the continual reference within Homes for Islington’s (HfI) latest newsletter to “HfI’s tenants”.

Although HfI would, I am sure, wish otherwise, it is a company wholly owned by Islington Council, and as such, to my knowledge, does not actually own any property under its own name.

Since the council is still the freeholder of our homes, those of us who reside in council- owned property legally remain tenants of the council. So, please do not refer to HfI as your landlord, and insist that HfI always refers to you as tenants of Islington council.
