Disaster for democracy

Published: 27 April, 2012

• IN attacking the Occupy movement, Joe Seet suggests there are public spaces in Canary Wharf (Why it’s time to boot this ‘movement’ out of square, April 20)

As a resident of the once private but now public Highbury Fields, let me assure him there are no public spaces in Canary Wharf; they are all privately owned and we can only use them if we obey the owners’ rules.

The progressive privatisation of the public realm is a democratic disaster and fighting it should be added to Occupy’s splendid campaigning.
