Mean and lean with wards closed down

Published: 27 April, 2012

• SO the management of Whittington Hospital have decided it’s better to be mean and lean, to close two wards, on the advice of not-so-lean private consultants costing £500,000.

This is unjustifiable. When massive health cuts were on the agenda two years ago the people Islington took to the streets against the proposed closure of the accident and emergency, paediatrics and maternity departments.

No wonder morale among staff is now at a low ebb. Defend the Whittington Hospital Coalition is still actively opposing the destruction of the NHS caused by the latest legislation and the massive health cuts brought in by this government.

We urge demoralised hospital staff to join us in opposing plans which reduce health provision and put private interests before public health.
