River runs through it

Published: 13 April, 2012

• IS it not ludicrous that there is a hosepipe ban in Stoke Newington and surrounding villages when Sir John Myddelton provided amply for the people of this area in Stuart times with the New River – with some help from the king?

His New River still runs strongly, maintaining water in Stoke Newington reservoirs.

But did not some water board more or less give this important resource away?

As a result we can no longer use these millions of gallons of daily constantly replenished water.
