My brush with ageism

Published: 10 August, 2012

• IN my late 50s, my dentist advises me my teeth are best served by a soft-bristled toothbrush and my experience of using one concurs with that.

But in all the shops – bar a household name national pharmacy chain that is a longish walk from my home – the only toothbrushes I find have medium bristles that my teeth and exposed gums find uncomfortably hard.

Rather than have a customer specifically ask for pharmacies or supermarket shops to order soft-bristled toothbrushes, has it never occurred to them they might be unintentionally ageist in stocking only medium-bristled toothbrushes?
