Two million litres later, the underpass leak flows on

Published: 3 February, 2012

• Thanks for taking note of the important issue of the leak in the Archway Road underpass (Underpass leak has Charlotte in floods of tears, January 13).

It is, however, still leaking and a little bit worse too. Some engineers came the other day and told me it was high on the list to be repaired.

The more people we speak to the more support we are finding.

Not only is the subway showing a very bad water leak, which freezes at the base of the steps, of 360 to 400 litres a day now, 100,000 litres a year easily for 20-plus years or... two millionish litres.

The leak is coming from a mains water pipe which belongs to Thames Water.

When people ask me where I think it’s coming from, I can almost identify it exactly. It is between the top of the hill and halfway down in a straight line.

That leaves about 500 metres of pipework to check for cracks, leaks, flow, pressure or whatever it is they do.

Hey, I’m not a specialist.

Is it to be repaired or is it “a miracle” of pure fresh treated water and may I bottle it and sell it at the Olympics?
