Why I cannot stomach this invasion of takeaway flyers

Published: 3 February, 2012

• I cannot be alone in being increasingly annoyed and dismayed at the number of flyers put through my door on a weekly basis.

As someone who rarely eats takeaways, which seem to be advertised in the majority of flyers received, they are placed straight into my recycling bin.
I know the majority of my neighbours do the same. I am capable of keeping the odd takeaway menu which I use from time to time, so do not need to have the same flyers delivered weekly, and I do not need several copies of each flyer.

This would seem to be a dreadful waste of paper and resources and surely increases the council’s recycling costs, which come from the council tax we pay.

It has proved useless to put up notices on the front door saying “no flyers” – experience has taught me that you just receive extra copies.
Isn’t it time we put a stop to this waste?
