Sweep away canal mess

Published: 13 July, 2012

• I WENT for a walk along the canal on a recent Sunday, from Islington to Limehouse Basin. As regards cyclists, I found that as long as they rang their bell when coming from behind you, it was safe.

It was not safe if they whizzed past suddenly from behind without any warning shout or bell.

Also, there were mountains of rubbish all along the way. Bins were more than overflowing, and didn’t look as if they had been emptied for months. There was rubbish strewn in all the corners near bridges.

It destroys the nice atmosphere and must help to pollute the canal as a lot of the rubbish probably ends up in the water.

The council should really clear up all this mess immediately.
