• THE council is making some very wise decisions, such as bringing bins and recycling in-house, and terminating the private finance initiative Homes for Islington contract, cutting out the private contractors and bringing it in-house too, saving millions of pounds (Bins brought back in-house, July 6).
The Lib Dems have condemned these very sensible policies, with fearmongering about union power when, in fact, private contractors are more at risk of having industrial conflict than the council because trade union reps will be negotiating direct with council management.
This shows how anti-union the Lib Dems really are.
They would rather workers did not have trade unions to negotiate their contracts.
Despite very difficult circumstances, the Labour council is doing a good job, but I do wish the national Labour Party would perform as well as our council does.
Next time it should bring those privatised industries and services back in-house and bail the real economy out instead of the incompetent banks.
