Building work at flats has made life a misery for 80-year-olds

Published: 1 June, 2012

• HIGGINS’ construction of luxury flats in North Road, Holloway, is nearing its end, but residents are still suffering the fallout, and Higgins will be making millions at our expense.

For the past three years, we’ve had to endure constant dust, noise, holes in the road, damage to cars and the frequent washing of curtains, windows and cars.

There have also been heavy vehicles arriving at the crack of dawn, waking us up while they await the removal of our phone box, post-box and bus stops.

This has not been easy for residents at Hawberry Lodge assisted housing project, as they are all elderly. Most of us are at home all day, and there is no respite from this building work. When we do go out, we have to go a long way to get a bus or post a letter.

All in all, Higgins has made our lives a misery for the last few years. When you’re in your 80s, three years is a lot to have had spoiled.

Higgins has not even given us token compensation, and has just paid lip service to our complaints by apologising for the “disruption”. It has been completely unmindful of our suffering all along.

Higgins Construction Company should bear that thought in mind when it is selling those properties.
