• AS a long-time resident of Caledonian Road I was appalled to see the flagrant disregard for planning shown by landlord Andrew Panayi on the BBC documentary The Secret History of our Streets.
Like most people on the Cally, I have been aware of Mr Panayi’s influence for years, but we had no idea of the extent of his dealings.
Though the council, it must be said, did know.
Others have had to jump through endless hoops to make even minor alterations to properties because, as we are all reminded, we live in a conservation area.
There seems to be a rather blatant double standard at work, one rule for those of us who follow the law and an endless free pass for a multi-millionaire landlord.
I’m sure Mr Panayi will feel proud when the Olympic torch passes all of his properties. What a way to welcome the world to Cally Road.
