No way to treat elderly

Published: 1 June, 2012

• A FRIEND of mine who is 91 was forced to climb stairs to the fifth floor carrying his trolley last week when both lifts at his flats in Carleton Road, Holloway, went out of action at the same time.

Although engineers  eventually managed to fix the lifts, I was a bit unhappy with the rather unfriendly and offhand tone of the people I spoke to at Islington Council about the problem.

I asked about the plight of people coming home in wheelchairs who live on floors that need the lift. The people at the end of the telephone didn’t seem to care less. I don’t think it is right that old people are treated like this.
