Take stand on uniforms

Published: 1 June, 2012

• HARGRAVE Park School’s rebranding of its uniform at parents’ expense gives the lie to claims that uniforms save money (School’s rebrand is slap in face for struggling parents, May 25).

The parents would be perfectly justified if they refused to buy these new uniforms, brought their kids to school in the old ones and told them to simply refuse to be either sent home or isolated. As a libertarian, I would abolish uniforms and dress codes altogether.

As to why the school is doing this, I have this firm belief that people in authority are generally control freaks.

That is why I would have all secondary school rules subject to the approval of a freely elected school council.
