Our debt to supporters

Published: 11 May, 2012

• I AM writing to thank the many readers of the Tribune who have contacted the credit union following the publicity about our campaign against pay-day loan companies.

We have had so many kind offers of support, including many people making lump sum Community Investment deposits.

This kind of ethical investment is key to our ability to provide an alternative to the loan sharks and pay-day lenders so we have now added a section about Community to our website at www.credit-union.coop.

In 2011, our low-cost loans saved our members more than £1m in bank charges, fees and high interest on borrowing.

People can make an enormous difference to the quality of life for those less fortunate in our community simply by moving a little of their money into some kind of ethical investment.
