Still life in that old TV

Published: 4 May, 2012

• FOLLOWING the digital switchover, don’t bin old televisions (which causes lead pollution).

First, televisions without a scart socket can still be used to watch live tv, if connected to a VCR or DVD recorder that is connected by a scart lead to a Freeview box.

Second, north Londoners can now get a free special collection of disused household electrical equipment (which uses a battery, plug or charger) until June 18, by calling the North London Waste Authority on Freephone 0800 085 1050.

This will enable components to be recycled.
