Teenager warned he could face jail if he touches another bike after being caught red-handed in Exmouth Market

Published: 20 April, 2012

A TEENAGE bike thief has been told he could be jailed if he so much as touches a bicycle that does not belong to him.

Reece Robertson, 17, was caught red-handed trying to steal a bike from Exmouth Market with accomplice Steven Dedman, 19.

The bike had been chained to a lamppost by police – who then lay in wait – as part of a crackdown on bike thieves.

Dedman was seen loitering around the bike for several hours in September before he was joined by Robertson, who cut the lock. Both were arrested.

Highbury Magistrates’ Court gave Robertson, of Claremont Close, Finsbury, an 18-month supervision order, a three-month curfew, and an anti-social behaviour order forbidding him from touching a bike unless he carries documentation proving it is his. Dedman, whose address was given as Feltham Young Offenders Prison, was imprisoned for six weeks.
