A FOURTH Tesco store set to open within a one-mile area has been given permission to sell alcohol, despite opposition from shopkeepers and Islington North MP, Jeremy Corbyn.
The Town Hall granted a licence to the latest branch of the supermarket giant, which will open at the junction of Hornsey Road and Tollington Park, at a hearing on Monday.
Mr Corbyn had urged the council to deny Tesco the right to sell alcohol at the new store over fears it would compete with the trade of small businesses nearby.
Several local shop-owners, none of whom was able to attend the hearing, warned last week that the extra competition would cripple their business.
A Tesco spokeswoman said: “We look forward to becoming part of the community and look forward to serving local people.”

Street clutter at Tesco
Has anyone else noticed the street clutter that the new Tesco is generating outside it's new store at the junction of Hornsey Road and Tollington Park. Sometimes blocking the red telephone box....
