ALGERIA’S gold medal Olympian Nouria Benida gave budding athletes a boost yesterday (Thursday) with a surprise visit to the Finsbury Park athletics track.

More than 100 children have been taking part in a free Access to Sports athletics camp there this week and they were thrilled when the Sydney 1500m gold medallist joined them.

Nouria was accompanied by Algeria Olympic coaches Abdelkrim Lamri and Azzedine Sakhri. They spent time talking to the youngsters about their careers before Nouria joined them for a run. “I want to encourage them by sharing my experiences,” she told Tribune Sport. “It’s the first time I’ve done this in England and I hope it helps the children.”

Athletics is not the only sport on offer from Access to Sports this summer. The charity is running a raft of free sessions across the borough.
