BRAVE Lewis Colam is planning to row 1,400 miles along the North America coast in a 15ft open rowing boat.
Lewis, who works for a management consultants company in Covent Garden, will be setting off next month from Miami on route to New York City.
The 24-year-old, who lives in Angel, is hoping to do 18 hours of rowing a day in aid of the American Alzheimer’s Research Foundation – a loved one recently succumbed to the disease.
“I don’t know why I’ve volunteered to do the trip,” he said.
“I’ve had very little experience of rowing boats apart from Regent’s Park lake.
“But it’s an interesting challenge, for a good cause, and I’m looking forward to it.”
The adventure, which has apparently never been attempted before, is already generating a lot of interest and so far more than 100 people have planned to join Lewis for various legs of the journey – rowing, kayaking and sailing on the east coast.
