NEIGHBOURS cleared six tonnes of debris from Islington’s Arlington Square on Saturday after decades in which it had been used as a dumping ground.
Thanks to an £18,000 grant from the Big Lottery, a corner of the square will soon be transformed into a community garden with six raised beds where vegetables and herbs can be grown.
Gordon McArthur, deputy chairman of the Arlington Association, said: “Working together in the square is helping us all to get to know each other”. Over the past four months Arlington Association volunteers have spread 20 tonnes of compost and planted 6,500 spring bulbs and 80 new roses in the square.
