Business start-up tips for jobless

Published: 1 June, 2012

THE long-term unemployed in Islington are to get advice on how to start their own business.

Islington Chamber of Commerce and the government’s Job Centre Plus are to run workshops in the autumn for unemployed people who might be able to set up their own enterprise.

Chamber chief executive Ronke Lawal said many unemployed people had expressed interest in setting up businesses.

“It may not be the ideal time but hopefully things can only get better,” she said. “We will provide experts on how people can market their skills and advertise themselves.”

Highbury Fields girls’ school is looking for business people willing to participate in an “informal” careers fair from 10.30am to 12.50pm on July 13.

The school is looking for the support of professionals from a variety of organisations and a range of industries.
