THE ex-boyfriend of a Highbury woman who vanished 17 years ago appeared in court on Wednesday charged with her murder.
Kevin John Doherty, 57, of Sherwood Avenue, South Woodford, was arrested on Tuesday – even though the body of single mother Jane Harrison was never found.
Ms Harrison, 32, who lived in Poets Road, vanished on June 15, 1995. She was last seen in the Wood Green Shopping Centre.
Mr Doherty, the father of one of her children, was questioned at the time of her disappearance.
His arrest followed a cold case review by the Met Police homicide and serious crime command.
At Redbridge Magistrates’ Court he was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey today (Friday) for a preliminary hearing.
A Met spokesman said modern techniques has lead to new evidence being found in the case, although he would not expand on what these were.
He added that it was unusual, but not unheard of, for someone to be charged with murder even though a body has never been found.
