BOOKER prize-winning novelist Allan Hollinghurst and former poet laureate Sir Andrew Motion will host a literary evening in aid of survivors of torture living in the UK next Tuesday.
They will read a selection of prose and poetry in aid of the organisation Freedom from Torture at its HQ in Isledon Road, Finsbury Park. It has been organised by Freedom from Torture’s Hampstead and Highgate Supporter Group.
Money raised will go towards helping to rehabilitate torture victims. Last year more than 1,000 people were referred to the group, mainly from Afghanistan, Iran, Sri Lanka and Turkey.
Rachel Douglas, of the Hampstead and Highgate Supporters Group, said: “Sometimes the written word can reach dark places and bring some comfort and understanding.
“It seems appropriate that two of the country’s foremost writers should share some of their recent work with us.”
Tickets are priced £10 and available from Ms Douglas on 0207 485 1467 or at email@example.com
