CITY University has unveiled £130m plans to revamp its campus in Northampton Square, Bunhill, including the creation of a “landmark” building in Sebastian Street.
The new building will house facilities for research as well as study spaces and lecture theatres.
Other plans are for a sight and speech patient clinic and a sports centre in Goswell Road which would be open to the community. The Students’ Union could also move to Goswell Road. The university says the bulk of the redevelopment will involve the refurbishment of the existing complex.
“The principle of redevelopment to provide new educational facilities at this location is generally acceptable” said Bunhill ward councillor Claudia Webbe.
The university was “trying to bring to life the area around Northampton Square”, she added.
Full plans will be submitted to the Town Hall for approval in July.
