ARSENAL Ladies have added some more firepower to their squad after swooping to sign Sunderland’s Jordan Nobbs and Steph Houghton from Leeds Carnegie Ladies.

Central midfielder Jordan, 17, helped Sunderland gain promotion to the Premier League and helped them reach the FA Cup Final in 2009.

On the international stage she has won the European Championships with England Under-19s and was named the FA Young Player of The Year last season.

Meanwhile Steph, 22, will give the Gunners great versatility as she can play in defence, midfield or as a striker. She won the League Cup with Leeds last season and featured in their FA Cup Final team in 2008.

Arsenal Ladies general manager Vic Akers said: “I have every confidence that Jordan and Steph will be terrific additions to our team.

“Jordan is only 17 years old, but has already shown huge potential.

“I’m confident that she will prove herself on the highest level when the Champions League gets underway in September.

“I should say, Jordan’s signing was possible only because of the excellent relationship we enjoy with Sunderland. I would like to thank their manager Mick Mulhern for all his help with this matter.”
