“OUT of this world” is how St Pancras Amateur Boxing Club head coach CJ Hussein has described the experience of having Olympic boxers train at the club during the London 2012 Games
Five of France’s boxing Olympians have been using the gym in Talacre Road, Kentish Town, as a training ground – and they even had Councillor Flick Rea drop by to take part in the action.
Hussein says his young St Pancras ABC boxers have been as inspired meeting the Olympians as young footballers would be to meet David Beckham.
“To be around them and see them on the television later, it’s out of this world,” he added. “Our kids are just so in awe, they can’t believe it.”
The French boxers bowed out of the Olympics this week, with welterweight Alexis Vastine and flyweight Nordine Oubaali both narrowly losing in their respective quarter-finals.
