Football: Youth League - Islington 3 Tower Hamlets 2

Published: 20 January, 2012

ISLINGTON’S primary schools’ district football team showed their battling mettle on Saturday as they twice came from behind to beat Tower Hamlets 3-2 in the Kay Trophy.

Played at St Aloysius playing fields in Highgate, Michael MacNeill’s side found themselves a goal down after only five minutes.

But the players rallied and quickly hit back when Chris Cunningham scored from close range after Solomon Arouna’s initial shot was blocked.

Despite equalising Islington found themselves trailing 2-1 at the break.

Within a minute of the second half Nathan Carlyle put Islington back on level terms, before Arouna headed home the winner.

“It’s probably our best performance of the season,” said MacNeill. “Defensive, midfield and attacking units all played their part.”
