IT was a family affair for one of Highgate Harriers veteran runners on Saturday at the Herne Hill Harriers Open Meeting at Tooting Bec
Over-45s runner Nicky Martyn finished second out of a field of 16 athletes in the 3000m with a time of 9:29.84.
Proving that distance running runs in the blood, his son Simon came home in third place in the Under-17s 800m ‘A’ race in 2:03.80.
Highgate’s men and women’s team combined their efforts to finish third in their Division Two meet in the Southern Athletics League at Woking on Saturday.
There were a host of impressive wins in the track and field as Highgate scored 155.5 points overall.
Top results saw Liam Ormes win his 100m ‘B’ race, Matt Dore-Weeks claim first place in the 110m hurdles ‘A’ sprints, Shaun Dixon stride to victory in the 800m ‘A’ competition and Robert Bahelbi win the 800m ‘B’ event.
Ryan McKinlay showed his strength in the category ‘A’ distance events as he won both the 1500m and the 3000m steeplechase, while fellow distance runner Henry Dodwell won the 3000m and 3000m steeplechase events in the ‘B’ team competition.
The podium-topping performances continued with Michael Dan winning the 1500m ‘B’ race and Ben Pochee winning his 3000m ‘A’ event.
In the field, Hector Wakefield won the ‘B’ team high jump, while Ben Gritz and Dennis Ntoluke won their respective ‘A’ and ‘B’ class triple jump events.
