THE TALK.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR. POSTED BY DAN CARRIER.
THE European champions will be sitting in the away dressing room on November 2. The players of Inter Milan will be lacing up their boots as they hear the strains of Oh When The Spurs Go Marching In echoing from the terraces above them.
What a lovely paragraph to type. Of course we want to progress, and the draw could have been kinder: Werder Bremen and FC Twente will offer stiff challenges, though both are beatable.
But regardless how we fare, we wanted a dream tie, and having Inter Milan play at the Lane will provide that glamour. As for the away game, everyone in the Tottenham family will have moist eyes when Ledley King steps up to the centre circle and shakes hands with his opposite number in their famous northern Italian stadium, the San Siro.
And we aren't going to make up the numbers. While they may be the best club side in Europe (according to the trophy cabinet) Jose Mourinho has scarpered and Rafa Benitez is still finding his feet. We've earned the right to be in the Champions League, and the rewards are draws like this.
