THE TALK: Reasons not to love Wem-ber-lee

THE TALK.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR. POSTED BY DAN CARRIER.

WEMBLEY: the name should send shivers down the spine of any footballer. After all, it is every ones dream to appear at the famous ground. But what must it mean to crocked centre back Michael Dawson?

Last season, the infamous pitch of the national stadium was responsible for a disastrous slip which cost Spurs a place in the FA Cup final: Daws, who had been our most consistent performer through out last term, took a little tumble allowing a Pompey forward to slip in and knock the team out of the semi final.

Daws had not put a foot wrong for so long, it seemed twice as cruel to watch him 'done' by the shoddy pitch.

Then on Friday night, having played such a massive role in getting us into the Champions League, he faces two months out and potentially missing the games against Inter Milan because of that pesky pitch again.

Appearing for England, he twists his knee because of the turf and suddenly we're without our main man at the back. Wembley's name must no longer fill Daws's mind's eye with the images of Ricky Villa and Gazza as it does for other Spurs fans. Instead, he'll say the name of that bowl off the A406 with a curse on his lips, a feeling echoed by all his fans, myself included.
