GOING to university is all about learning and bettering yourself. It’s a time when you learn skills that will prepare you for the rest of your life. But the best universities in London and across the UK are also all about making the most of every aspect of student life.
For most people, going to university will be the first time that they have lived away from home. This can be a little daunting at first. But quickly you realise that being free from the watchful eye of mum and dad does have its advantages. Primarily, you can do what you want, when you want with whoever you want. It’s all about the good times.
As long as you don’t neglect your studies, enjoying life and experiencing new things is what university is all about. It’s a time when you are free from the restrictions of youth and yet to be weighed down with the responsibilities of adult life. No kids, no job, no mortgage. Just friends, fun and good times.
Which Universities Are The Most Fun?
In the UK, there are two types of university. There’s the campus university, such as Warwick and Sussex, or there’s the city university like UCL or LSE. Campus universities are very much hubs of fun and good times. Everyone who lives on campus is there for the same thing. So you’re never far away from a social event. But with everyone being more or less the same age and into the same things it can be a little one-dimensional.
City universities provide all the excitement of the city, right on your doorstep. There’s everything you need and all the diversity of city life at your fingertips. But then city life can sometimes be a little lonely and when everyone is spread out it can sometimes be hard to meet up.
Get Involved
The best way to have an active and varied social life at university is to join clubs and get involved. Put yourself out there. Don’t be shy. There will be clubs and societies for almost every hobby or interest imaginable. So it’s a great way to meet likeminded people.
Most clubs and societies will also have socials where you can meet and get to know the other members. Whether it’s paragliding or Airfix modelling, if you enjoy it the chances are you’re not the only one.
Nightlife
Of course, most people enjoy something a little bit more enticing every now and then. Nightlife at university is everywhere. Most areas will have student friendly bars and clubs with special promotions and offers for students. Have a great time and make the most of your nights out but always remember to be careful, especially in the city.
Make the effort. Meet as many people as you can. And most of all enjoy yourself. Whether you’re at a small campus or at one of the best universities in London. The student experience is really what you make it. Visit the Study London website for a breakdown of which universities are the best.
